I watched the MS conference today, and IMO it was very boring. I don't own an Xbox, and I've never had a huge desire to, but one thing MS has generally been able to do in the past is put on a good "show".
Today's conference lacked any kind of interest, or showmanship IMO. Even though there ARE features of the 360 that make me jealous (Last FM for one thing), and even though there were a few things that impressed me today, over all I was totally bored. And for those few things that impressed me, everything else was just the opposite.
The things that I did like and did impress me were:
The Kinect camera. High quality from what I can tell, way better than the PS Eye from what I know of both cameras. I dig that the Kinect camera can actually move and follow you (though that's also a little creepy at the same time, lol).
I also dig the video chat features, especially the ability to watch the same things as those you are video chatting with. Though, I'd have to see how it actually looks on your own screen.
Then there was the "workout" game (whatever it was called). Granted, I don't care about that, but it looks like something my wife would really love. WAY more than Wii Fit. So for her sake, that was pretty cool.
Other than that though, no interest. I'm a little back and fourth with the whole motion controls anyway, but I do NOT care for the idea of "non-controller controls". I don't WANT to wave my hands around, or speak to the TV (unless I'm actually talking to a person on the other end).
Not ONE of the "motion controlled" games that MS showed off looked good, with the exception of the fitness thing, which as I said only appealed to me because my wife would love it.
I also feel a little irony... People have been bashing Nintendo, and the Wii, talking about the "kiddie games" and loosing the "hardcore" focus, and catering only to the "casual" market... Those same people have boasted about the 360 being a "hardcore" machine, and look at it now... Look at today's conference where MAYBE 15 minutes of it spoke to the "hardcore" crowd.
I will be very interested in seeing what those same 360 boasters have to say about MS now... Will they bash MS for their lack of focus, just as they did to Nintendo a few years ago? Or will they eat it up in a dog dish of hypocrisy?
Enquiring minds want to know... LOL
What do you all think?
