TAKE NOTE THAT I WILL BE MAKING PERIODIC CHANGES WITH THE FORUM OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. THINGS MAY MOVE AND BOUNCE AROUND, AND IF I'M MY NORMAL SELF, I'LL BREAK THE FORUM A FEW TIMES
So, now that this forum is open to the public, there are some changes. However, those of you who've been here for years already really have no need to read this. So, I'm treating this thread as though everyone in here is totally new. BABBIES.
First of all, a few simple basic rules.
Same as the Steam Group, be respectful. If someone asks you not to do something, don't do it. Its fine to disagree and argue, but don't be a dick.
As far as posting goes, try to make your posts have a point. I may or may not make a thread/board for incoherent babbling, but for the time being try to avoid many one word posts that could be done without.
Pretty much, just go about using this forum as you would any other. Use the same conduct that is expected on virtually all forums and you'll be fine. If there are ever any specific issues that need to be addressed, I shall add them to the rules. I trust you guys enough though to not have to list small detailed rules.
Once you're done reading this thread, please post in the introduction sub-board. I have my reasons for asking this, so please do it
Oh, and, about the Shoutbox. Use it or don't, its up to you. However, don't be totally retarded with it.
As far as enforcing rules go, there will be a warning, then a perma-ban. I may be a nice guy, but I don't give second chances aside from a first warning. These forums have been around forover three years, and are home to a very close group of friends. The decision to open this forum to the public has been heavily debated for a long time, and we finally decided to take the chance and do it. I will not allow for anything that could hurt what this forum has been in the past. If you do something that makes me think you shouldn't be here, you won't be.
Second, to explain a few things about the forum. One, you have personal word censors. If there's something you don't want to see, go to your profile and click Modify Personal Censors. Self explanatory from there. (For some reason it seems I broke this temporarily. I'll fix it when I figure out what I did)
Another thing is the ability to quickly, easily, add multiple quotes.
At the bottom of ever post, on the right, you'll see this:
Add Quote - Link to Post - Back to Top
If you highlight text in that post and click Add Quote, it'll add the highlighted text to a Quote Queue. Below the text entry box you'll see another box with "View Topic Summary | View Quotes" in it. Click "View Quotes" and every quote you've added thus far will be in there. You can then add them individually to your post as you want.
This is great when quoting several authors, or when replying someone else one bit at a time.
You have the ability to lock/unlock your own threads. Though, if your thread is locked by an admin you can't unlock it. You can use this as a way to self-moderate a thread to a small degree. If you feel something in the thread needs to be deal with, lock it and let an admin know. Or, simply, if there's no need for the thread to be bumped anymore feel free to lock it.
There are several forum skins that have been made over time. Some are better than others (The Mario Skin is an abomination), but for the most part all are bearable. You can change your skin from the "edit profile" page. It'll be a drop-down menu in your edit page. The skins that are easiest on the eyes the classic Dark skin (which has been used on a separate forum I run for over 5 years ) Space, and Fractal. STABBY STABBY STABBY is easy on the eyes, and is the skin I use, though the background image might be a turn-off for some. The "For Kaiser" skin should the default everyone is set to upon signing up, and therefore is what you see now. If you have an idea for a forum skin, or would like to make one, talk to me. I'd be glad to help out.
Most other things I've added are pretty easy to understand and use, so they don't need listed. I've added support for a few tags, such as spoilers, but they aren't perfect. All bbc tags, as well as smileys, appear in the full-reply page. If you aren't familiar with them for some reason, the shortcuts are easy to use and understand.
Next, unlike a lot of communities, our community leaders try hard to listen to everyone's opinion and get to know our members. We are very open to suggestions, both for the TF2 server and this forum. On top of that, we encourage you to simply chat with us. While we'd love to have a large community, we'd rather have a tight community instead.
Lastly, for any issues here on the forum.
There were originally five admins. Myself and the four people I recruited to help me build this community (Soren, Smeags, Kaiser, and Shvitzel). Well, in the past three years Soren and Smeags have vanished, and Kaiser is taking off as well. As of now, there are two remaining admins: myself and Shvitz. All forum issues are to be sent to Shvitz and myself. For several reasons that don't need listed, I will ask that anything on the forum that needs attention be sent to me first and foremost.
There are no moderators outside of the two remaining admins. This may change, and I may add some at my discretion if I feel they are needed.
For technical issues, such as something with the forum not working or "ILLU BROKE THE FORUMS AGAIN," please use this board or talk to me over Steam.
There are only a few things I've not mentioned, but they aren't too important. Ranks, for one. Anyone with a colored name is an older member (typically means they've been here since before the Steam Group was started). Not all of them play TF2, and not all of them will be posting in the boards everyone else sees. If you're around long enough and are active, I may give you a rank of your choice.
I can't think of anything else to add, aside from the fact that right now the forum is a bare-minimum. I will expand on boards and such as time goes on and as they are requested. But for now its pretty limited.
Remember, this is your community. If there's something you think we need that isn't around, make it, or talk to me about making it.
So, until I feel the need to cram more useless information in your brain regarding this place, welcome! Hope you enjoy the forum, and we really hope you'll be an active member!
